Why is the Olive Tree involved?
In 2021 The Olive Tree was proud to step in at the last minute to host the start and finish of the Guildford, Surrey Hills ride. It turned out to be a huge year being 3rd largest in Britain and 18th World Wide raising an incredible £27,455
In 2022, despite the ride returning to it’s rightful starting place on the Historic Guildford High Street, my heart had been captured by this incredible organisation and I continued to offer what support I could to the Ride Director, now a personal friend and “extremely” regular to the pub, affectionately referred to as Campaign HQ!
2023
With a few more locals at the Olive Tree getting involved, planning starting a little earlier and plenty of hydration available this year is already record breaking!
To paraphrase a famous movie line “we are gonna to need a bigger high street”
More on the ride and why I / we are involved.
Having been involved for 3 years now, it is very apparent that the charity is not just about raising money. £31,000,000 in 10 years is an incredible achievement but it’s also about raising awareness and starting conversations about men’s health. Something us men are very bad at, maybe it’s the hunter gatherer instinct that prevents us from admitting we are not immortal.
By creating a sense of community and camaraderie among those involved, be them participants who share a passion for motorcycling, or people like myself, it provides a safe and open forum for conversations to be entered into. Even in my humble pub in sleepy Sutton Green, it enables me to engage in such conversations, even with complete strangers who are visiting for the first time and continues to demonstrate just how close to home these issues really are!
The 2023 rides are on Sunday 21st May Worldwide, ours again leaves Guildford High Street at 10am, finishing at Hogs Back Brewery around 12:15. Let’s set a new Surrey Hills fundraising record, oh no wait, we already have!!!!!
